PSR 12th National Council Spring 2010 Face-to-Face Meeting

National Council has scheduled our Spring 2010 Face-to-Face meeting. We will be hosted by VP of Communications, Kristie (Rector) Waters, in Indianapolis, IN.

We have a lot to do at this meeting - we plan to complete our required LEAP training and finish up some of our strategic planning to get it read for review and presentation at Conference.

We're also looking forward to catching up with the Triangle staff at their headquarters for some of our trip! (Thanks, Brian!) If you have any questions or comments, please let us know and we'll keep you posted on what we accomplish!

Phi Sigma Rho Welcomes a New VP of Finance!

In case you haven't heard the news yet, the 12th National Council has appointed a new VP of Finance - Anita Ambani (PSU-Lambda Alumna)!!!

Please join us in welcoming Anita to National Council!  We'll have Anita introduce herself to you all just as soon as she gets settled.

Barbie goes Computer Engineering!

After 50 years and 125 dolls, Mattel has finally come out with Computer Engineer Barbie!  It's an exciting day for engineers interested in Barbie, and a great opportunity to show girls a little insight into engineering.

It appears that young girls weren't the ones that voted for computer engineer, but this is still a great way to encourage them to look at engineering. Remember when Barbie once talked about how Math is tough?  Glad to see she's come a long way in just a few years.

Great job to the Society of Women Engineers and National Academy of Engineering for working with Mattel to make this happen!  I know I'm looking forward picking up on when it comes out in the fall.

It's that time of year... Resumania!

Attention all job hunters, soon-to-be job hunters, and I-just-want-to-work-on-my-resume-so-that-it-will-be-ready-when-I-need-it job hunters!  Are you ready for Winter 2010 Resumania?  If you're an active member and you want your resume reviewed by the expert alumnae in Phi Sigma Rho, just send an email with your resume to Resumaniaactive@yahoo.com between January 25 and February 14, with your field of study in the subject line of the email.  The Resumania team will review your resume and return it with comments!  Feel free to direct any questions to Resumania@phisigmarho.org.

We know that there are also alumnae who would like to have some feedback on their resumes, but at this point, Resumania is only open to active members.  But don't fret - plans for resume and career services for alumnae are in the works, so stay tuned for details!  In the meantime, if you have any thoughts on what types of programming you would like to see in this area for alumnae, please let us know at VPofProgramming@phisigmarho.org!

"Educate to Innovate"

Another exciting new STEM related initiative from the White House: "Educate to Innovate." The purpose of this one is to help educate math and science teachers prepared to help us increase the number of students in STEM.

What do you think of this new initiative?

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday season to you all!  We hope you enjoy the holiday and vacation time.  Safe travels to all!

Phi Sigma Rho Newsletter

At Phi Sigma Rho we support sustainability and are considering switching to an electronic format of our biannual newsletter. We like having a formal publication that is delivered by mail twice a year, but are considering all the options that are available to us. We'd like to hear your thoughts on this! You can e-mail vpofalumnaeaffairs@phisigmarho.org or reply to this post!
